# How to Use the Demand vs. Product Saturation tool

## With Demand vs. Product Saturation, you have the ability to view a trends' search pattern and historical product count for each retailer, analyze competitor assortment strategies, and identify white space opportunities.

With historical data where you need it, you can further substantiate assortment strategies while analyzing the competition.

With this feature, we have the product count for each trend going back up to 4 years integrated into the platform. This allows you to see how specific retailers have leaned into or out of specific trends.

You can also see how the product count has changed over the last 30 days and the last year. This helps to better understand how the overall market is investing into the trend.

Toggle on the time period:

You can view the historical data for a trend’s search volume and product count going back 4 years.

Filter on the Retailers you would like to see:

See how each market segment is investing in this trend over time. You can select as many retailers as you would like! While we recommend selecting 1 to 2 at a time for easier readability.

Analyze the data:

Search volume is the average number of searches for that week. The retail number is the product count for the retailer you have selected or all retailers if you have none selected. Note that the trend term you have selected has to be in the name of the product or in the product description on the retailer’s website to pull into the selected trend.

**How and When to Use this Tool**

1. **Use this feature to understand how retailers are investing or backing out of trends over time:** If your customer looks to luxury retailers, see how a luxury retailer is investing in the assortment so you can follow along and satisfy your customers needs.
2. **Gauge how customers are responding to a retailer’s assortment:** If you see a retailer pulling back heavily on their assortment, their customer could have had a negative response to the assortment. Use search, social, and market data to understand if the retailer was too early with the trend, the style was not adopted properly for the market segment, etc.
3. **Identify gaps in the market from an assortment perspective and optimize the white space:** Look to see if there is a trend your competitors or overall market segment is lacking in their offerings.
