# How big is a trend across market data and online competitor assortments?

## Utilize the trend category and table view filters to narrow down your selection to begin to identify which trends competitors and specific market segments are investing in.

Once you’ve identified a trend you want to explore further, click into it to open the Trend's Detail Page.

From there, look at the **Market Stream** beneath the Trend Scorecard to see products pulled from the US e-commerce sites we track. This gives you a strong visual snapshot of how the trend is showing up in the market.

**Market Stream**

To see which parts of the market are investing most heavily in a trend, look at the **Trend Scorecard** and review the **Most Saturated** section. This helps you identify which market segments are currently backing the trend and whether it may present an opportunity for your assortment.

For example, if a trend is highly saturated in the *Luxury* market and your customer is looking for luxury-inspired styles at a lower price point, it may be a strong trend to test or invest in. If it is most saturated in the *Fast* *Fashion* segment, consider whether you can react quickly enough or if it makes more sense to monitor the trend’s performance and ensure it still aligns with your customer.

Next, scroll to the **Market** **Landscape** section to see how the overall market—or a specific segment, like Luxury—has invested in the trend over time. You can also drill into a specific retailer to track how product count has changed over the past month and over the past year.

**Market Landscape**

Under the **Demand** **vs** **Product** **Saturation** tab, use the **Retail** **Site** dropdown filter to explore all retail sites or narrow your view to one or several, so you can better understand their current assortment and overall investment in the trend over time.

The Demand vs Product Saturation tab can also help guide decisions on whether to invest further in a trend or pull back. Has the market steadily increased its product count for this trend over the last few years? Use an aspirational retailer or market segment as a benchmark to help determine how you should invest.

Next, use the **Market** **Index** tab to understand how product count has changed over time within a saturated market. If your customer looks to *Luxury* retailers, for example, you can isolate the *Luxury* segment to see how that market has evolved. To do this, click the other market segments listed at the bottom of the chart to deselect them and leave only the Luxury Index in view.

Refer to the **Market Segment**, **Retailers**, and **Brands** sections further down on the detail page to see which segment, retailer, or brand is carrying the most products for a given trend.

Click into different **market segments** to see how each segment interprets and styles a trend, which can be especially helpful for design and product development inspiration.

You can also explore **top retailers and brands** to see what their current assortment looks like for that product. For a more targeted view, click into a **brand** to understand how heavily it is investing in the trend, who it is targeting—such as a Missy or Gen Z customer—and how it is styling the trend.

**How and When to Use this Tool**

1. **Use this feature to understand how retailers are investing or backing out of trends over time:** If your customer looks to luxury retailers, see how a luxury retailer is investing in the assortment so you can follow along and satisfy your customers needs.
2. **Gauge how customers are responding to a retailer’s assortment:** If you see a retailer pulling back heavily on its assortment in the Demand vs Product Saturation tool, it may signal that customers are not responding positively to the assortment. Use search, social, and market data to evaluate whether the retailer entered the trend too early or whether the style did not resonate with that market segment.
3. **Identify gaps in the market from an assortment perspective and optimize the white space:** Look for trends that your competitors—or the broader market segment—may be underinvested in or missing from their assortment.
